Dental Cleanings & Exams in Schroon Lake, NY
At Dentist ADK, we believe that a healthy smile starts with consistent, preventive care. Regular cleanings and comprehensive exams are the foundation of good oral health, and Dr. Levey takes the time to make sure yours gets the attention it deserves, not just a quick check and sending you on your way.
What to Expect
If you have never been to our office before, we need to complete a new patient examination PRIOR to your cleaning to determine the type of cleaning that you will need. As you probably know, not all cleanings are the same. The cleaning needed for someone with healthy gums is very different from the types of cleanings needed for someone with either gingivitis or gum disease.
Dr. Levey will review your X-rays and evaluate your teeth, gums, airway, and overall oral health including an oral cancer screening. If anything needs attention, he’ll talk you through it clearly and honestly. No pressure. No upselling.
During your cleaning, our hygienist will carefully remove plaque and tartar buildup that regular brushing simply can’t reach.
We recommend cleanings as frequently as someone might need them. Dr. Levey has his teeth cleaned every 3 months, while his wife comes in once a year. If you’ve been dealing with gum-related concerns or have active gums disease, more frequent visits will be recommended to control the problem. There is no cookie-cutter approach, with all of our recommendations based on science and the individual’s ability to maintain a healthy mouth.
Other Treatments to Consider
If it’s been a while since your last visit, your exam may reveal areas that need some additional care. Treatments that often go hand-in-hand with cleanings and exams include:
- Gum Disease Treatment / Periodontal Care
- Dental X-Rays
- Tooth-Colored Fillings
- Same-Day Dental Crowns

No judgment here. It happens more than you’d think. Dr. Levey and his team are known for making patients feel at ease, no matter how long it’s been. We’ll start fresh and build a plan that works for you.
Cleanings should be completely comfortable. If your gums are sensitive or it’s been a while since your last visit, or if you have any discomfort during the procedure, it is a warning sign that inflammation is present which needs to be addressed. If this is the case, our team will modify our treatment to make sure that we always keep you comfortable while working at your pace to get you to a healthy state.
No.
X-ray frequency depends on New York State mandated guidelines, generally based on the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and when you last had x-rays. We always use digital X-rays, which are safer and more comfortable than traditional x-rays with lower radiation. Please keep in mind that it is not possible to make a comprehensive diagnosis for dental disease without a thorough clinical and x-ray evaluation. In Dentistry, like in Medicine, it is best to either prevent problems or catch them in the early phase where treatment is both less invasive and less expensive.
Bottom line, we will take the minimal number of x rays needed to allow us to give you the best possible treatment recommendations.
